Located halfway between San Antonio and Houston Lavaca County consists of 970 square miles of prime farm and ranch land. The 2000 population is 19,210, concentrated in the four major cities: Hallettsville, Moulton, Shiner, and Yoakum. The average rainfall is 37 inches and the growing season averages 278 days.
